LOAD-CYCLE REFERENCE

Range is not amplitude.

The range spans from the minimum to the maximum value. Amplitude is half that span. The mean is the midpoint between the extrema.

ΔF = Fmax − FminFa = ΔF / 2Fmean = (Fmax + Fmin) / 2R = Fmin / Fmax, when Fmax ≠ 0

A worked example

For Fmax = 20 kN and R = 0.1: Fmin = 2 kN, Fmean = 11 kN, Fa = 9 kN, and ΔF = 18 kN. These values describe the cycle, not fatigue life.

Two review checklists.

FIGURES

Check the visual output.

  • Label every axis and show the unit.
  • State what an error bar represents.
  • Keep markers and line styles distinguishable.
  • Inspect labels at final physical size.
  • Separate measured data from model curves.
  • Review the exported file, not only the editor.
COMPUTATION

Keep a reproducible record.

  • Preserve the original input data.
  • Record units and sign conventions.
  • Document transformations and exclusions.
  • Save model settings and software versions.
  • Separate fitting from independent validation.
  • Record limitations alongside the result.
